What Course Program Should I Choose & When Can I Start?
Full Year Option
Our full program is 32 weeks of work split into 4 terms. It can be started at any time.
If you wish to begin mid-term or mid-year you can still pick up the course from Term One – Week One or another term. However, starting the course at a different week other than week one, will mean your reading schedule may need to be adjusted initially.
Lite Start Option
The Lite Start program is 6 months of work. It can be started at any time. We generally recommend our Lite Start courses for:
- students starting mid-year, or for families who only want half a year of work.
- DIY families preparing their own curriculum who want additional teaching material to supplement work at a grade level.
- students who are repeating a grade.
Unlike the Full Year Option, our Lite Start Courses only meet part of the Australian Curriculum & NSW syllabus requirements for the corresponding grade.
- Upgrade to full version available at an additional cost of $330.
Kindergarten Homeschool Curriculum Summary
(Early Stage 1 NSW Syllabus)
Many of our families comment on how the My Homeschool Kindergarten Curriculum allows them to enjoy the lifestyle of homeschooling that they’d always dreamed of: full of good books and robust education, but suitable for little learners and designed in a way that encourages their curiosity and learning. With afternoons free for your own activities and interests, this is a wonderful way to start your child’s homeschool journey that encourages their learning in a natural home setting.
This year we guide and give you the resources you need so you can cover all those subjects you want to enjoy, from English and Maths to Geography and History, Science and Nature Study, Technologies and Creative Arts, and fantastic ways to enjoy Physical Education and Health too.
Due to their importance as building blocks for future knowledge, phonics, reading, and numeracy instruction take centre stage in this early stage of your child’s education.
We show you how you have you can have the homeschool you’ve dreamed of. This year, with our guidance, you will:
- Use beautiful books to teach your child,
- Do Nature Study in a way that actually suits a 5 year old;
- Teach your child to read, learning the basics of phonics;
- Practice writing using delightful copywork from Australian and international children’s authors;
- Help your child get a concrete foundation in mathematics with lots of hands-on learning options;
- Learn about animals (including Australian animals) in Science;
- Dig into your child’s own history to begin your history studies.
- Foster a love of learning; and
- Create a nurturing and vibrant atmosphere of education in your family and home;
Importantly, we teach you how to develop the skills you need to homeschool with confidence.
Languages
Simple Language appreciation resources are provided but you will need to purchase additional resources if you wish to focus on teaching a specific language. We give guidance and recommendations on this. Please Note: Languages are not included in the Lite Start Courses.
Extension Work & Global Goodies
Additional materials are available to enhance your child’s lessons or replace some Australian content. This is only included in the Full Year Courses. So, if you are looking for a global approach to education then please consider the Full Year Course rather than the Lite Start Course.
We Use A Blended Learning Approach
At My Homeschool most of your lessons will be completed offline (reading from a book, doing a field trip, or writing in your notebooks) and some will be online learning (watching videos, reading online etc.).
All our resources are digital and are located on Moodle, a renowned online learning platform used by many schools and universities. Using this format means we give you exceptional functionality which enables you to record your progress, and access your lessons from various digital devices and locations. This format also enables us to keep our resources fresh and dynamic.
A laptop, tablet, or desktop computer is needed to use our courses. Access to a printer is also necessary. PDFs can be downloaded and printed for offline reading but other resources can only be viewed from our learning platform.
The majority of our classes require reading from a real book or paper-based resource. Writing exercises involve pencils and paper and many lessons are oral or conversation based.
Video lessons require access to the My Homeschool learning portal.
The Moodle App can be downloaded onto your smartphone for on the go lessons and checking progress but is not recommended as the main digital device for reading and viewing lessons.
A Co-ordinated Curriculum
My Homeschool offers parents the confidence that their child is gaining knowledge, learning content, and developing skills in an age-appropriate way. This is achieved by presenting courses that follow a rich curriculum that ensures your child builds on their knowledge year after year.
From Foundation to Year 10 your child will have the benefit of a streamlined curriculum without overlaps and unnecessary busywork.
Our program development is based on the education philosophy of Charlotte Mason and the Australian Curriculum (which includes the NSW Syllabus & WA Curriculum).
Registration and Reporting
At My Homeschool, we do not do your registration plans for you. Registration applications are meant to be specific for each individual child and so parents are the best person to do this. However, we make your registration (or an exemption) so much easier because we provide so much support for this process. All our courses includes:
- An Education Plan offered in a format that you can individualise for your child. An Australian;
- A Scope and Sequence showing how My Homeschool reflects the Australian Curriculum and NSW Syllabus;
- End of Term Report templates;
- A printable week-by-week planner with plenty of space to make notes specific to your child (no need to purchase a separate planner!); and
- An online Weekly Planner, complete with links to all the online resources required.
We also provide you with access to our State Rego and Planning Course which guides you through your homeschool application (and some international options!) when using our courses.
We give you a shortcut to help you get straight into giving your child a delightful and robust education without spending days and days researching and tweaking unsuitable content.
Community Support
Teaching Support
We also offer regular teaching support opportunities and have an extensive library of homeschooling resources, including resources on the specific registration and reporting requirements of a number of states, territories and countries. Whether you are just starting out or have homeschooled for years, there is something to teach and inspire you.
Curated Content
Loving Learning at Home
As a young married couple my husband and I observed other families homeschool their children. I saw what was possible in a homeschool setting and becoming good friends with adults who had been home educated, I also saw the stellar results.
When we had our first child I knew the classroom wasn’t for us, but I needed to figure out what our homeschool would look like. I wanted to be sure our children would receive a good education at home, starting in Kindergarten.
So, I bought books and spent time learning about different aspects of education, homeschooling, and child development. With plenty of teachers in my family I also received a lot of good advice about what to consider (and what to avoid!). Lots of books about Charlotte Mason started filling our bookshelves.
Applying what I learned, I worked out a way to cover all the content I needed to teach but doing so in a beautiful and engaging way.
In Kindergarten I started to teach English and maths and all the other subjects too. But, we also read many Living Books, took Nature Walks, enjoyed stories about composers and listened to classical music. We appreciated beauty and artworks through picture study at home and visits to art galleries and museums. Connecting with other homeschooling families, strong friendships were formed, and much fun was had at excursions and fieldtrips.
Adding in these little components of a beautiful education seemed to be such small steps, but I had the confidence that each small part was a step in the right direction.
The results?
Our eldest son is now studying at university. And he still loves to learn (and join in the family read aloud whenever he can).
In the years we’ve been homeschooling so many parents have told me how they wanted to homeschool but felt they just couldn’t. They could see what we’d created in our home and desired the same for their children but didn’t know how to do it.
Countless times I’ve invited families interested in homeschooling into our home to join in our homeschool day. As they sit with us, drink tea, read books, enjoy poetry over a piece of cake, tackle science and geography, and maybe create an artwork, they get a glimpse of how lovely homeschooling can be. They also realise that learning at home doesn’t lose any of the rigor of a good education.
While I can’t have every parent interested in homeschooling over to share in our day, I can give you a glimpse of what is possible in your homeschool: the My Homeschool Foundation Year course.
It is your opportunity to come and see what homeschooling a Kindergartener can look like… and just how lovely it looks.
It is an invitation to choose the education you’ve always wanted for your child.
Story by Jo Lloyd, My Homeschool Foundation Year Course Creator
I like the online links and the weekly plans spelling out exactly what to do. I also like the optional extra reading so I don't feel rushed or pressured to complete more if we are having a busy week, but I'm still able to mix and match it to another quieter week.
We love your whole programme. Everything is awesome! Having all the ideas and links at our fingertips has made lesson planning a dream! Also knowing you yourself Michelle and Jo are just an email away for immediate support is so reassuring!
