Lunchtime Learning Events:

August 9, 2023 – Bringing the Home into Homeschooling with Jo Lloyd & Michelle Morrow

Too often in our striving to create the perfect homeschooling experience we can focus too much on academics and outside activities. Or we can simply try to cram in too much at once, leaving us feeling exhausted and with little time for genuine learning. Yet, what we long for is to keep the heart of our homeschool beating strongly. Be encouraged to see how you can build the foundation of your home to sustain and enhance your homeschool. Learn how your homeschool can serve to nurture, restore, strengthen, and delight your family.

August 16, 2023 – Parent Culture with Cathy McKay & Michelle Morrow

How does parenting and homeschooling go hand in hand? How can you create a good learning atmosphere? How can curriculum influence the family culture? How do you bounce back from a chaotic day? How can you steer your child to a love of learning? Catherine and Michelle will be talking about these ideas and more.

Cathy McKay runs The Book House and Parent Culture Australia an online discussions group helping parents embrace an atmosphere of learning in the home.

August 23, 2023 – Learning To Read and Dyslexia by Alison McDonald & Michelle Morrow

Alison is an experienced speech pathologist with a special interest in reading problems. She was also a homeschool mum for many years. In this session we will be discussing evidence based solutions to teaching reading, – and we’ll talk about why whole word learning is out and phonics is in. We’ll also discuss ways to identify if your child is having issues with reading and look at a few strategies to help your child thrive as a reader.

August 30, 2023 – Beyond the Booklist with Jo Lloyd & Michelle Morrow

What is a Living Book and how do I use them? These are just two of the questions we will answer in this session centred around the beloved feature of My Homeschool: Excellent books. We will examine different approaches to reading and teaching using Living Books to support learning at each age and stage. Also, this session will teach you how to curate a collection of books your family will treasure forever.

September 27, 2023 – When All Is Said and Done with a Panel of Veteran Homeschool Mums

There is so much more to homeschooling than academics. How do we find our kid’s passions? What are some practical ways to teach faith? Where do we fit in the character training?
